All the watches unveiled by Cartier for Watchmaking Encounters 2020


It has been a slow and somewhat uneventful year for novelties with far fewer launches compared to previous years. On the contrary, plenty has happened in the greater watchmaking realm – from the Covid-19 pandemic temporarily shutting down production facilities, to brands postponing novelties, to Watches and Wonders 2020 moving to a digital platform, and to brands announcing a painful divorce from Baselworld.

Not only has it refreshed existing collections such as the Panthère, it also has created an all-new collection in the Maillon de Cartier while incorporating the Tank Asymétrique into the Privé collection designed to showcase Cartier’s historical pieces. Last year, Cartier introduced the Santos-Dumont as a more accessible, quartz-powered collection to complement the Santos. For the new decade, the maison has expanded the collection into several limited editions, including ones whose cases are made of platinum (not so accessible now, it seems). Tapping into its archives, the maison has contemporarised the Pasha while retaining its signature – a square inside a circle. It has also shown us why Cartier is a revered watchmaker with several grand complications such as a minute repeater with a perpetual calendar. For proof? Browse the galleries below.
