These New Seiko Watches Marry a Famous Movement With Enamel Dials

Seiko’s Presage line includes some of our favorite watches, and we were particularly impressed by the affordable enamel-dial options available in the catalog — so much so that we included one in 2017’s GP100, a ranking of the best products of the year.

The Seiko Presage Enamel Spring Drive isn’t an affordable Presage like some of its predecessors, but it does signal an important marriage of two Seiko signatures — namely, the Presage line of craftsmanship-forward design and the Spring Drive, a movement unique to Seiko that straddles the line between mechanical and quartz movements.

The two new models are boutique-only timepieces in 40mm stainless steel cases with porcelain enamel dials, one in white, and one in black. Handsome and refined, each dial is made by master craftsman Mitsuru Yokosawa and his colleagues. Featuring dual-curve sapphire cases, a date function and a power reserve indicator, the watches are water-resistant to 100m.

The Seiko cal. 5R65 powers the Seiko Presage Enamel Spring Drive, with an incredible accuracy of ±1 second per day and a power reserve of 72 hours. They’ll be available in October 2019 in select Seiko boutiques worldwide for a price of ~$5,086.
