Some of Citizen’s best-known, legitimate tool watches are in its Promaster collection, including divers that seem like the kind actual, serious divers might use. While the majority feature quartz-powered, solar-charged (Eco Drive) technology, the brand has just released a couple of new models with old-school mechanical movements, which are often favored by watch enthusiasts. The two limited-edition watches are a Promaster Marine SuperTitanium and a Promaster Mechanical Diver that share a red and black colorway and are designed to mark the 50th anniversary of the brand’s presence in Europe.

Aside from the black dial and bezels, each with red highlights, both watches feature 200m water resistance, mineral crystals, and the Citizen/Miyota 8203 automatic movement inside, which offers the time plus day and date displays and about 45 hours of power reserve. Each has some obvious design differences as well, but the Mechanical Diver with its signature 8 o’clock crown is 42mm wide in steel, whereas the Marine SuperTitanium is 44.3mm wide in titanium that the brand has coated with its own technology to be more scratch-resistant.

Affordable, robust, and totally unpretentious, these are some of the best “beater” dive watches you can get — whether or not you are actually putting their durability to the test. The new Citizen Promaster Marine SuperTitanium NY0076-10EE will have a price of around $448, and the Promaster Mechanical Diver NY0087-13EE will be $290. Both come on rubber straps, are limited to 1,000 pieces each, and are available for retail in Europe.
