If you don’t like a notched-display and moving pop-up mechanisms, Oppo and Xiaomi have just showcased a new camera technology that’s probably the best way to solve the selfie-camera conundrum. Both Chinese smartphone makers have posted videos demonstrating a selfie being taken from a camera that’s hidden underneath the display.
Oppo had tweeted a short video of the prototype in action and this approach promises to offer the perfect notch-less smartphone experience. A few hours after that, Xiaomi had also posted a video on Twitter demonstrating its own version of an under-display camera technology.
In both instances, the area where the front-facing camera is located will be blacked-out whenever the selfie camera is activated. Apart from Oppo and Xiaomi, Samsung is said to be working on a similar technology as well.
During the 2018 Samsung OLED forum, Samsung had presented a new AMOLED display that offers an in-display fingerprint sensor, under-screen camera, sound on display and haptic on display. Based on the latest leaked renders, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will still retain a punch-hole for its selfie camera.
