Downsizing is so universal that even American icons such as the Ford Mustang aren’t spared, with the current generation featuring a 2.3 litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine alongside the 5.0 litre, 460 hp/569 Nm Coyote V8. The smaller four-pot isn’t merely serving as a base model, however, with the addition of a Performance Package.
Order guides for the United States market seen by Cars Direct show that the High Performance Package starts at US$4,995 (RM20,956), which makes for a price tag of US$32,760 (RM137,444) including destination charges for the Mustang EcoBoost coupe. A new Handling Package adds US$1,995 (RM8,370) to the price, though a required Equipment Group 101A package brings the total to US$36,755 (RM154,205). Choosing the 10-speed automatic gearbox adds US$1,595 (RM6,691).
As for performance, the Performance Package adds 20 hp to the standard EcoBoost (up from 310 hp to 330 hp), while the claimed torque figure of 475 Nm is unchanged. As standard, the Mustang EcoBoost does 0-96 km/h in under five seconds. This package also brings a more aggressive aero kit, retuned quad-tip exhausts and upgraded suspension.
The Handling Package, which is exclusive to EcoBoost Mustang coupes fitted with the Performance Package, adds 19-inch painted aluminium wheels with Pirelli P Zero tyres, a rear sway bar, ‘semi-metallic brakes’ and a Magneride damping setup.
