It has only been 16 months since Ford introduced the Mustang Bullitt, but curiously, our spy photographers have managed to spot what looks like an updated version of the pony car in Dearborn, Michigan. Judging by the camouflage masking, we can expect slight changes to be done to its front fascia.
More specifically, the fog lamps appear to be positioned a few centimetres higher than the outgoing model, and the housing beneath looks more angular as well. There are no discernible changes elsewhere – the 19-inch aluminium wheels with red Brembo calipers are carried over, and the rear is identical as well, save for the unsightly factory test exhaust tips.
Under the bonnet, things should remain unchanged as well. While there are rumours of a petrol-hybrid Bullitt, the updated model will most likely draw power from the same 5.0 litre V8, offering 475 hp and 569 Nm of torque. Existing parts such as the active valve performance exhaust system, open air induction system, a Shelby GT350-derived intake manifold – with 87 mm throttle bodies – and new powertrain control module should continue serving duties as well.
With that, the existing Mustang Bullitt – equipped with a six-speed MT82 manual transmission – sprints from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in under four seconds, and has a top speed of 262 km/h, which is 12 km/h more than a regular Mustang GT. The gear shifter features a white cue ball shift knob as a nod to the original Bullitt.
If this test mule is indeed the updated Mustang Bullitt, then expect it to be introduced later this year. Factory-installed options should include Recaro sports seats and a Bullitt Electronics Package, which includes navigation, driver memory seats and mirrors, an upgraded sound system and Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert. The optional MagneRide semi-active suspension system should also be available.
